Walker Ramp

Challenge: A debilitating illness made it impossible for a Vancouver woman to lift her walker up the front stairs of her home. As a result she would require assistance from a caregiver and consequently would not be able to stay in her home and remain independent.
Solution:

A Vancouver volunteer designed a walker ramp for her. The ramp consisted of a double set of heavy-duty aluminum tracks that ran from the sidewalk to the veranda of the home. The tracks had two parallel runners on each side to accommodate the width difference between the front and the back wheels on the walker.

A pulley system with a hand crank was installed on the framework of the front door and attached to the walker. This way the client could either raise or lower the walker as needed.
