| Dedicated to Assisting People with Disabilities to Achieve an Independent and Fulfilling Life in the Community |

The Tetra Society of North America has been helping improve the independence of people with disabilities for years by building assistive devices that can't be found in the marketplace. Children need to be able to fit into their environment as much, if not more, than adults; our Tools for Tykes program is designed to address that need. Amelia Tennant has brittle bone disease and uses a wheelchair. She was unable to play on the floor with her classmates and couldn't access the classroom computer. Tetra volunteers built Amelia a chair designed to be raised or lowered to the desired height that would hold her safely.
Tetra volunteers have helped many children with disabilities in Vancouver and in other chapters across Canada. With the generous support of The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, the Tools For Tykes Program is being replicated in the United States as well. The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation is a non-profit foundation jointly funded by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan and its American affiliates with the mission of contributing to a better world for us all by helping young people with disabilities, through technology, to maximize their potential and participation in society. If your child or teenager has a disability and needs a solution that regular health care professionals can't provide we want to hear from you. If you are inventive, technically skilled and would like to donate your time to help children with disabilities we would also like to hear from you. |
