| Challenge: |
A Vancouver woman had difficulty removing hot items from her oven due
to weakness and limited coordination in her hands. She suffered a Septic
Shock, which destroyed the feeling and strength in her arms, so she lost
the ability to lift even lightweight objects. |
| Solution: |
Tetra volunteers built a device using a crowfoot support mounted on
two rotating and one locking caster to improve mobility. A shelf was
attached to a column mounted to the crowfoot support. The shelf is
raised and lowered with the assistance of an Acme Thread, which is
powered by an Electric Screwdriver. A foot brake was installed on the
front caster and rubber grips were placed on the handle bar at the top
of the column. This whole system allows the client to easily control and
manipulate items in and out of her oven. |
