Dual-Control Walker

Challenge: An Occupational Therapist requested a dual control walker for a young man with Cerebral Palsy who was also blind and susceptible to seizures. He was not able to walk for long distances without support but he was too heavy for the attendants to constantly assist him.
Solution:

A ski pole with a single brake was attached to a standard walker that could be extended when needed and retracted when not in use. The original brakes attached to the walker were left for the young man to use as was the original steering.

An attendant was able to walk beside the client and able to steer or brake when necessary.
