Computer Control

Challenge: Margot has no body control and is limited to rotating her head in one direction only.

She has a hospital style bed with power operated adjustment of the head and foot positions.  During the night the head and foot positions need adjustment as Margot becomes uncomfortable lying in the same position.  This means that she must wake her helper who must come and make the adjustments.

Solution: A microprocessor based system was designed that is controlled by one pillow switch.  One switch closure starts the bed head upwards and two closures starts the head downwards.  Three and four closures operate the foot upwards or downwards.

Further switch closures alternately  stop and restart the selected function and allow her to find a comfortable position.
Not only is Margot able to make these adjustments at will but the helper gets a good nights sleep!
