Cello Bow Guide

Challenge: A young Vancouver boy wanted to play the cello but due to muscle weakness was unable to keep his bow from sliding up the strings. His mom wanted a device that could be attached and detached easily and not cause damage to the instrument.
Solution: A bow guide was designed using two pieces of wood cut to fit the indentation in the cello. Slightly larger pieces were glued to keep it from sliding down the instrument. Two pieces of steel were bent to fit the holes drilled in the wood piece and stand 6" over the wood. The rod is held in place by push-on nuts in the countersunk holes. Pieces of plastic tubing (drinking straws) rotate on the vertical parts to let the bow slide easily. When not in use the wooden pieces can be rotated 90 degrees to lie flat on the instrument.
