Our Volunteers:
Tetra depends on our volunteers for
their ability to derive creative and
innovative devices to help people with
disabilities. This extraordinary bunch
of people volunteer their time,
technical skills and creativity to
make real differences for
people living with disabilities.
Volunteers come from very diverse backgrounds, such as carpenters, engineers, technologists and health professionals.
Thank you:
Kyla, Doug, Curtis, Crystal, Chuck, Brian, Jim, Gilles and everyone who  contributed to making this past year so successful.
Join us today:
If you are in the Central Alberta area and want to become a volunteer, we would like to hear from you!
Anyone with creative ability and an interest in helping individuals with disabilities can contribute to our meetings.

The start more than a year ago:

In late 1999 a local woman contacted the Tetra head office in Vancouver with a request. She was looking for a way to inflate the tires on her wheelchair without having to remove herself from the chair. A volunteer was found who built a tire pump that she could use from her chair. The apparent need for Tetra’s unique services prompted the formation of the Red Deer Chapter in the spring of 2000. Our chapter is dedicated to helping people from the community achieve more independence in their everyday lives.

Tetra Red Deer has completed 10 projects in and around the community. Our projects include, raising a computer desk for easier access, creating a remote control with big buttons for a radio, re-designing an entry way to allow for the installation of a stair glider, a very large cradle to help soothe a little girl, helping a wheel chair new mom make adjustments to her environment to help her care for the baby, and a variable height bench to help a young boy with his therapy.
Some people we have helped during our second year as a Tetra chapter:
Aron had a variable height bench made that will allow him to kneel at the sink as well as kneel on the floor and work at the bench.
Arlene had a cup holder made to fit her wheelchair. Adjusting the environment of a wheel chair-bound new mom helped to facilitate baby care.

Emily’s special bed built to keep her safe and accommodate her special medical needs. Funding has been provided, in part, by a generous donation from the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion No. 35.
Volunteer Curtis built this very large crib to keep our client Samantha safe, as well as allowing her Grandmother easier access to her.
