Technical Volunteer

Tetra chapters comprise a small group of technical volunteers, led by a coordinator.

We ask volunteers for up to 12 hours per month. All out-of-pocket expenses, such as materials and mileage, are reimbursed. Volunteers do not have to be engineers, although most are. All technical skills are appreciated to ensure a good cross-section of skills.

Job description/responsibilities

Participate in monthly volunteer meetings
Meet clients, in the presence of a third-party (friend, family member, caregiver, etc.), to discuss project requirements
Design and build an assistive device or adaptation solution based on identified requirements, within a pre-determined timeframe
Follow safety guidelines established by Tetra
Make adjustments to assistive device as necessary, until both volunteer and client are satisfied with the results
Provide documentation of project solution(s), including detailed diagrams/photographs, wherever possible
Present project solutions and suggestions at volunteer meetings

Time commitment

Because each request is unique, the time required for each project varies.
